Yet, infection diseases such as Ebola, SARS, Avian influenza and now COVID-19 are on the rise, together with unprecedented levels of deforestation, overfishing and biodiversity loss across the world.
Scientists and experts estimate that more than 70% of all emerging infectious diseases are interlinked with the health of ecosystems. As the Planet warms and the ice thaws, scientists fear that ancient viruses and bacteria locked away for thousands years in glaciers and the permafrost could re-emerge.
To address this crucial challenge, HSH Prince Albert of Monaco will gather leading philanthropists, decision makers, artists and talents, great intellectual and scientific figures on September 24th 2020, for the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health.
Science, Arts, Cinema, Music and Fashion will join forces to mobilize widely and launch the Foundation’s concrete initiatives to bridge the widening gap between health and environment.
All proceeds from the event will provide crucial support to the Foundation’s initiatives for Planetary Health, including the Ocean, the Earth and Humanity: the Foundation’s environmental emergency fund to support recent global catastrophes, sea level rise, the ice melt in the polar regions and the glaciers accelerating the level of green gases, plastic pollution, the depletion of biodiversity on land and at sea, the destruction of natural habitats and forests, the spread of livestock diseases and education of communities to prevent a return to ‘‘business as usual’’ following the pandemic.
This prestigious evening, organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation with the support of Mr. Milutin Gatsby, Global Fundraising Chairman, has become the most coveted charity events in the world, offering guests once-in-a-life time experience.
